FAQ
Are lab-grown diamonds real diamonds?
+
Yes — and here's the science behind it. A diamond is pure carbon that has been subjected to extreme heat and pressure until it crystallizes into the hardest natural material on earth. In nature, that process happens miles underground over billions of years. In a lab, it happens inside a specialized machine that replicates those exact conditions — same heat, same pressure, same result. The atom structure is identical. The crystal is identical. The diamond is identical. The only difference is that one was made by the earth, and the other was made by us.
Will people know it's lab-grown?
+
No. There is no visual difference between a lab-grown and a mined diamond. Same sparkle, same brilliance, same everything. Telling them apart requires expensive specialized equipment that reads microscopic growth patterns — not something anyone is bringing to a dinner party, a date, or your Instagram feed. Buy it to wear it with confidence, because you don't have your savings hanging in your ear.
Does it hold its value?
+
Here's the honest answer: no jewelry holds its value the way people think it does. A mined diamond loses a significant portion of its value the moment you walk out of the store — and it can take decades to recover, if ever. Lab-grown diamonds have lower resale value than mined ones, and we'd rather tell you that upfront. What you're getting instead is the same diamond at a fraction of the price. Buy it to wear it with confidence, because you don't have your savings hanging in your ear.
Is the quality the same?
+
Yes — because lab-grown diamonds are literally diamonds. Same chemical composition, same physical properties, same grading scale. Ours are CVD lab-grown, IGI certified, and graded on cut, color, clarity, and carat — the exact same standards applied to mined diamonds. The quality doesn't change. Only the origin does.
How do I choose the right diamond?
+
Start with cut — it determines how much the diamond sparkles, and nothing else comes close to its impact. Then focus on color. Here's something the industry doesn't always tell you: color is visible to the naked eye in a way that clarity often isn't. A slightly lower clarity grade won't be noticeable — nobody is showing up to your dinner with a loupe. But a lower color grade can make your diamond look noticeably less brilliant. We always recommend prioritizing color over clarity. For everyday wear, F-G color with VS1-VS2 clarity is the sweet spot — exceptional quality without paying for perfection nobody can see.
What is an IGI certificate?
+
IGI stands for International Gemological Institute — one of the most respected independent gemological labs in the world. Every diamond we sell comes with an IGI certificate that documents its exact cut, color, clarity, and carat weight. It's your proof that what you're buying is exactly what we say it is. No guessing, no trust required — just verified facts about your stone.
Is IGI as good as GIA?
+
GIA is the oldest gemological institute and historically the gold standard for mined diamonds. IGI has become the leading certification for lab-grown diamonds specifically — most major retailers use IGI for lab-grown stones. Both are rigorous, independent, and internationally recognized. For lab-grown diamonds, IGI is the industry standard.
How long does shipping take?
+
We ship within 1-2 business days. Standard delivery takes 3-5 business days. Every order ships with tracking so you always know where your piece is.
Do you ship internationally?
+
Currently we ship within the US. International shipping coming soon.
Is shipping free?
+
Yes. Always. No minimum order required.
Can I use the jewelry every day?
+
That's exactly what it's designed for. Lab-grown diamonds have the same hardness as mined diamonds — a 10 on the Mohs scale, the highest rating possible. Your piece is built to be worn, not stored.
Do you offer custom jewelry?
+
Yes. If you have something specific in mind — a setting, a shape, a size — reach out at hello@thelabjewelry.com and we'll make it happen.
Can I get my jewelry resized?
+
Yes. Contact us at hello@thelabjewelry.com and we'll guide you through the process.
Do your pieces come with a warranty?
+
Every piece comes with a 90-day warranty against manufacturing defects. If something goes wrong with the craftsmanship within that window, we fix it or replace it. For longer coverage, we always recommend insuring your jewelry. Most home or renters insurance policies cover jewelry, and standalone jewelry insurance through providers like Jewelers Mutual starts at just a few dollars a month. Your piece is worth protecting.
